Things to do
Orlando and its surrounding area is somewhat of a haven for golf fanatics who are spoilt by the 170 golf courses to choose from that range in difficulty from casual pitch and putts to the challenging PGA Bay Hill course; one of the most renowned tournaments on the professional golfing calendar. The quality of courses and the vast quantity makes for a great golfing holiday that dwarfs the European equivalent of Marbella. There is also the opportunity to indulge in American sporting culture and get a seat to watch Orlando Magic play NBA basketball.
Shopping
Similar to the majority of the United States, Orlando boasts an impressive selection of malls that sell many of the global American brands at a fraction of the price to European shopping centres. Malls are located on the fringes of the city and for this reason are easily accessible and easy to find. The Mall at Millennia has over 150 stores and is conveniently positioned close to the theme parks; or for an even more extravagant shopping adventure Florida Mall comprises of 260 stores, 30 restaurants, and 1.9 million square feet of shopping space, making it impossible to return home empty handed.
Restaurants & Nightlife
Orlando has a reputation for being a family friendly environment which it certainly lives up to, but for an evening off from parenting, or for those visiting the area with a group of friends; do not pass up on the opportunity to explore the nightlife on show. An array of dance clubs, pubs, wine bars, and live music venues erupt when the sun goes down. Downtown Orlando is populated by the younger generation that relish the party scene; Firestone Live is just one of the clubs in the area that attracts international musicians and DJ’s who enthral the dance floor.
Surrounding Area
The most iconic natural feature in the Orlando region is Lake Buena Vista, ideal for a stroll around the waters edge, a refreshing swim, or lake activities that are certain to entertain the family. Stretching further into the surrounding area Kissimmee State Park portrays an essence of the past ‘cowboy’ days of central Florida. Or for tranquillity keep a watchful eye for a glimpse of native bobcats, sandhill cranes, and white-tailed deer. The preserved landscape provides a compelling contrast from the futuristic theme parks and built up urban areas of Orlando.
