The area is inhabited by creative companies and innovators which gives the place and electric buzz that can be felt in the streets.
With over 15 popular beach spots, there is something for whatever vibe you're after. For a family-friendly spot, head to Millionaires Row, Normandy Isles, North Beach or the popular Miami Beach. Here you'll find calm waters and incredible activities to keep everyone entertained. If you're looking for something a little livelier try South Beach were you'll find bars, restaurants and an energetic vibe.
As well as being on the beach, Miami has an entrance to the Everglades National Park meaning there are plenty of opportunities to spot some incredible wildlife including alligators, snakes and tropical birds. The Miami Seaquarium at Biscayne Bay is home to sea lions, sea turtles, killer whales and stings rays. You can also enjoy interactions with dolphins at the Dolphin Harbour.
Head to one of the city's stylish roof tops bars and enjoy breathtaking views as you sip a cocktail and mingle with the locals. Then onto a club which range from large lavish spots, to funky underground venues, so you're sure to find something to match your style. For the ultimate recovery, treat yourself to a relaxed brunch with views of the beach the following day.
With over 1000 tiny islands, there are definitely too many to explore them all, but that doesn't mean you can't try. With your own car, you can do whatever you like in the Keys, revisit favorite places, stay for a day longer, or get off the beaten track to explore. The Overseas Highway, an epic 113 mile road, will get you from island to island with mesmirising views along the way.
When you're ready to park up the car for the night, Florida Keys is the perfect place to find a hotel right on the beach. Wake up to ocean views daily, enjoy a morning dip in the sea, and perhaps even lounge on a private stretch of manicured sand on your hotel resort.
This is the first stop on your journey down The Keys and is home to two incredible state parks and a national park. If you'd rather stay on dry land – head to the parks where you can hike through the nature trails and visit a bird rehabilitation centre.
Arguably the most famous and visited part of the Keys, Key West is located at the southernmost tip on this stretch of islands. Located closer to Cuba than it is to Miami, this place is like a tropical paradise. The cultural diversity can be tasted in the food, seen in the architecture and heard in the music. Fill your days exploring the stunning architectures then head to the legendary open air bars and restaurants in the evening. This is the place to take is easy, soak up the atmosphere and truly relax.
