This $250 million redevelopment of the Mercado site is finally under way and is expected to be completed by summer 2014, International Drive I-Shops are to feature an array of entertainment options, retail shops, restaurants and accommodation. Its idyllic location is encircled by some of
Orlando’s most popular roads; International Drive, Sand Lake Road and Universal Boulevard, guaranteed to entice a vast quantity of visitors each year.
Undoubtedly the star attraction of this new development (and certainly the most visible) is Merlin’s Orlando Eye, standing at 425 foot, offering unrivalled views of the surrounding Orlando area and comparable to the London Eye. Other entertaining attractions here include a Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and a Sea Life Aquarium, with these 3 attractions expected to draw in more than 3 million visitors annually alone.
In the hub of the I-Shops development is space and opportunity for large, medium and small tenants, as well as freestanding retailers and restaurants. The initial stages look promising with some establishments already open, inclusive of LongHorn Steakhouse, Chuys Red Robin, The UPS Store and Starbucks to name a few. On completion there will be a total of 232,850 square feet of retail area, restaurants & entertainment to explore, which we believe is another positive step for Orlando’s tourism industry, for both locals and tourists alike.
