Alcatraz Island, San Francisco

The infamous Alcatraz has many stories to tell. Many notorious gangsters served sentences in this chilling ex-prison, rich with history and chilling, sinister atmosphere. Convicts included Al Capone, George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly and Alvin Karpis, the first ‘Public Enemy #1’, hear about their stories as well as other secrets about this mysterious penitentiary. 

Aside from the gloomy reputation, it’s a must-see landmark for any visit to San Francisco. In fact, the island is home to many beautiful rare flowers, plants and wildlife, including hundreds of sea birds. There is a ferry which takes you to the island which departs from Pier 33 from the port of San Francisco and boasts exceptional views of the city en route to the island.
