Elvis fans will know Graceland is a must-see on any visit to Memphis, but even those who weren’t brought up with his music will love a day discovering the historic treasure. Lovers of music in general or American History will find plenty to capture their attention, while kids will love the immersive and interactive experience too.
Other than the Graceland Mansion, where the King himself once lived, the sprawling complex pays homage to his entire life, with so much to see and do that it’s easily a half- to full-day experience. Tour his private planes, grab a bite at the on-site restaurants (our pick is the 50’s themed Gladys’ Diner, where the menu features some of his favourite dishes), or even catch a show - uh huh huh.
There’s more to Memphis than barbecue and Graceland. Stroll the South Main Arts District downtown, happy hour hop through the Cooper-Young neighbourhood, or fill up on history at the National Civil Rights Museum or Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum. Families will love meeting the 3500+ animals at Memphis Zoo, including Ya Ya and Le Le the giant pandas.
Music aficionados, meanwhile, will love Sun Studio – often referred to as the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s where Elvis, Johnny Cash, and B.B. King launched their careers, and you can enjoy a guided tour and hear stories about the legendary musicians along with listening to unreleased tracks.
In fact, with so much to do in Memphis, just a few days isn’t enough. Why not stay a little longer? View our Memphis multi-centres here.
