For decades, Las Vegas has boasted some of the best shows on Earth. Now, the city has a venue that is out of this world. The MSG Sphere is a giant, planet-shaped arena, measuring a whopping 366 feet in height. Beyond its aesthetics, the arena is also full of wondrous technology that enhances the audience experience like nothing before. Located at The Venetian resort, the MSG Sphere is poised to host a wide variety of Vegas entertainment, including concerts, sporting events, immersive experiences, and more - just in time for 2024 Las Vegas holidays.

Overview of the MSG Sphere

The MSG Sphere opened in September 2023 after almost five years of planning. And in the true Las Vegas style of ‘go big or go home’, it has become the world’s largest spherical structure. Developed by Madison Square Garden Entertainment and designed by global architecture firm, Populous, this dazzling addition to the Neon Capital’s skyline is set to host four to six residencies each year from some of the biggest names in the music industry, as well as boxing and mixed martial arts events.

Layout & Design

Exterior

At 366 feet tall, this is a hard building to miss. Whether you grab yourself tickets to a show or not, the exterior of this venue is an attraction in itself. Powered by 60,000 square feet of programmable lighting, the dome has already been mesmerizing Vegas holidaymakers with stunning visuals. Displays have included Earth, an astronaut in space, an eyeball, Mars, and a huge NBA basketball. And the good news is that due to its size, the arena can be seen from various locations along The Strip.

Interior of MSG Sphere

For those lucky enough to experience a world class show inside the MSG Sphere, you can expect to have your mind blown. Equipped with a 16K resolution wraparound LED screen, it’s the largest in the world, meaning a truly immersive experience for guests. And it’s not just the visuals that will astound you. The acoustic system utilizes over 150,000 ultra-directional speakers, creating deep vibrations wherever you are seated. Plus, if you’re desperate to share the wonders with friends and family back home, there is high speed internet at every seat as well as throughout the venue.

Cost of MSG Sphere

One look at this phenomenal structure and you’ll realise it would have taken a pretty penny to construct. Well, it took an enormous 2.3 billion to be precise, more than a billion over its original budget. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing, as the engineering marvel had several delays, largely due to the Coronavirus pandemic. But after officially opening its doors to the Vegas crowds, the money has already started to roll in with everyone eager to experience its magic.

Capacity of MSG Sphere

Split over four levels, the seating capacity for the Sphere is 18,600, but it can accommodate up to 20,000 standing. Although much of the 516 foot wide arena is dedicated to grand screens and entertainment systems, they have still managed to squeeze in 23 VIP luxury suites, where guests can indulge in first-class amenities from the best seat in the house.

MSG Sphere Events

The first show to open the Sphere in September 2023 was U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere. The launch event from the legendary Irish rockers, which marked their first live outing in four years, went down a storm and set a precedence for the type of performances to watch out for in the future.

Yet while you may be a bit too late to catch a glimpse of Bono and the band, the MSG Sphere is now home to an incredible new show called Postcards from Earth. Under the design of acclaimed director, Darren Aronofsky, this multi-sensory experience is part sci-fi story, part nature documentary. Shot specifically for the Sphere, making use of the 4D capabilities and audio system, it will take you on an unforgettable journey to explore the majestic beauty of planet Earth like you’ve never seen it before.

How to Get to the MSG Sphere

The easiest way to get to the Sphere is to take the monorail to the Venetian/Palazzo station. From there it’s a short walk to the arena. While in that area, you can also pay a visit to The Venetian Resort for a taste of Venice in the heart of Las Vegas. Opt for a relaxing gondola ride or simply admire the Italian-inspired architecture and design of this unique hotel.
