Do you know your Mulan from your Moana? If you’re a bit of a Disney buff, this one’s for you. Did you know there are bucketloads of Disney tours, add-ons and events that will give your holiday that little bit of extra magic? We’re talking breaking bread with princesses, heading on a safari trek and building your own lightsaber. We’ve broken them down so you can find the best fit for you and your family.

Dine with a Difference

Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise

Cast off on a cruise with a Disney twist. You can fill up on cheese and desserts made by Disney’s pastry team, while being served fireworks-themed drinks. And little ones will be entertained with a UV scavenger hunt. But it’ll be all eyes to the skies for the grand finale – as the fireworks light up the sky over Cinderella Castle. You’ll have one of the best seats in the house, plus you can pop on your Mickey Vision glasses for an extra special viewing treat.

Cinderella’s Royal Table

Cinderella herself welcomes you into the Grand Hall for this royal experience. Then you’ll head up the spiral staircase to the banquet room. As you’d expect, this place looks like something plucked from the fairytale books. Think stone arches, medieval flags and stained-glass windows. While you’re here, various Disney princesses will grace you with their presence. And the feast itself is worth a mention, too. Breakfast spreads include caramel apple French toast, shrimp and grits, and avocado on toast. Meanwhile, lunch and dinner, is a regal affair with everything from gnocchi and pork tenderloin to macaroni and cheese for smaller guests.

Amorette’s Patisserie Cake Decorating Experience at Disney Springs

Consider yourself good enough for Bake Off? Then you’ll love this cake-decorating masterclass at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. You – and up to two guests – can create your own Mickey or Minnie Mouse dome cake, carefully constructed with layers of sponge, mousse and jelly. You’ll have the crème de la crème of pastry artists instructing you along the way, and sharing their insider tips. Plus, you can gulp along while you garnish with complimentary drinks, including coffees, teas and select alcoholic bevvies.

Build Your Own

Savi’s Workshop at the Walt Disney World Resort

Channel your inner Obi-Wan Kenobi with a build-your-own lightsaber workshop. You’ll really feel like you’ve stepped into a galaxy far, far away on this encounter. You’ll be met by one of Savi’s Gatherers outside the workshop in Disney's Hollywood Studios and get four themes to choose from. Next, you’ll select the heart of your lightsaber – powered by red, blue, green or violet kyber crystals – and assemble your hilt. By the end, you’ll have your own custom made 31” lightsaber, which you can take away with you.

Disney Private VIP Tours

This one’s for all the flash holidaymakers out there. Disney offers private tours for groups of up to 10. This way, you’ll be able to tell your guide exactly what you’d like to see and do, and they’ll plan your day accordingly. Basically, think of it like your very own Disney PA. You’ll be picked up in a private car by your guide, who knows everything there is to know about the parks. And another bonus – you’ll get to use the Lightning Lane entrances for most rides.

Walk on the Wild Side

Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Dig out your best safari hat and binoculars, because it doesn’t get much better than this for animal lovers. Your own personal guide will take you on a three-hour tour of Disney's Animal Kingdom’s Safi River Valley. Spot giraffes, hippos, rhinos and crocs as you cross rope bridges on foot and zoom over the savannah in a safari truck. What’s more, you’ll be joined on your wild adventure by a trained photographer, so you can take in the animals while they’re snapping away.

Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

You’ll feel like you’re careering over the plains of Africa on this night-time safari. And you’ll realise that’s when things really come to life. You might be wondering how you’ll see once the sun’s set – well, guests are given night vision devices. With more than 20 exotic species to spot, you can zoom in on zebras, gawp at giraffes and ogle ostriches, all in an evening’s jaunt.

Caring for Giants

Animal lovers, assemble. You’ll learn how to look after Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park’s biggest residents, the African elephants, on this encounter. You’ll get closer than ever – around 80 to 100 feet – to the elephants and learn all about their day-to-day care from an expert guide. This extra’s a good tour for those short on time, as it’s only an hour.

After Hours

Majority of the parks also offer after hours events, where you can dance to DJs, sip drinks and whizz down the rides and slides after the park closes. Psst – that means less time spent queuing and more time to enjoy the rides and Disney characters. Just check each park’s offering as tickets are only available on select nights.

Time Your Trip

If you time your holiday right, you’ll be treated to special seasonal events all year round. At EPCOT alone, you’ve got the International Festival of the Arts in January and February, the International Flower & Garden Festival in Spring, and the legendary International Food & Wine Festival, which usually runs from July to November. During these themed events, you can expect live music, acrobatic shows, art and show cooking – to name just a few. And, it goes without saying, you can look forward to even more fun for Halloween and in the run up to Christmas.
