Travelling with infants, children or young adults always presents its own seemingly unavoidable obstacles when planning a holiday. From food and drink to keeping the little ones entertained, flying can be an unnecessary headache. Thankfully theres an airline that helps replace the stress of flying with a joyful and unique experience your whole family can get down with.

Weve all heard of the powerhouse that is British Airways, and weve all heard of the impeccable service and attention to detail you should expect during one of their flights, but its not common knowledge however just how much thought and care goes into catering for children. Its incredibly impressive and one of the reasons many families choose to fly British Airways to Florida and many other destinations. Gone are the days filled with worry and stress, panicking over the little things. Say hello to magic moments, flights full of relaxation, happiness and stress-free memories.

Whats the big deal then? Here are just a few of the things British Airways get spot-on...

Seating

BA Seating

When you travel with an infant (under 2) who doesnt require a seat of their own, youll be able to reserve a seat for yourself and everyone in your booking...free of charge! Meaning you can book the best possible seat that will ensure you and your child have a comfortable and relaxing flight.

Travelling with a child a little bit older? There are carrycots and child seats supplied onboard by British Airways themselves. For infants up to 2 years old, you can reserve a carrycot/child seat in advance on long haul flights only (perfect for Florida). Better yet, child seats and carrycots are supplied free of charge (who doesnt love the word free) but are given on a first come, first serve basis.

Heres some information on carrycots and child seats

Carrycots:

  • suitable for babies who weigh no more than 12.5kgs (27.5lbs)

  • can only be used for an infant who is lying down

  • available on all long haul flights (except in the First cabin, and on the London City to JFK service)

  • not to be used during taxi, take-off, landing and turbulence (when the fasten seatbelt sign is on)

Child Seats:

  • suitable for older babies who weigh no more than 12.5kgs (27.5lbs)

  • available on all long haul flights (except in the First cabin, and on the London City to JFK service)

  • adjustable to a variety of reclined positions

  • not to be used during taxi, take-off, landing and turbulence (when the fasten seatbelt sign is on)

If you have paid for a separate seat for your infant, or your child is under 3 years, you can bring your own forward facing car seat to secure into the aircraft seat.

The car seat:

  • can only be used for infants over six months old and children up to three years old

  • must be designed to be secured by means of a normal aircraft single lap strap and face the same direction as the passenger seat on which it is positioned

  • must have a 5-point restraining harness

  • must not exceed the dimensions of the aircraft seat, and should fit into an area of 45cm x 45cm (17.5ins x 17.5ins)

  • must be strapped in place ensuring that the adult lap strap buckle does not lie directly over any part of the frame or under the structure of the car type seat after tightening

Food and Drink

BA Food and drink

Nutrition and flavour - the two fundamentals to a good childrens meal. British Airways have created a range of childrens meals that are both nutritionally balanced and teeming with all kinds of amazing flavours. Theres a Feed Kids First policy that means your little ones get to tuck into their food first (eliminating any tantrums or strops) and you can even pre-order your childrens meal for free (that beautiful word again) at least 24 hours before you fly meaning you can sit down with your child and pre-order exactly what they like to eat with them.

For infants, British Airways has a selection of tinned baby food in a range of delicious flavours.

Entertainment

Now to the important bit. Your childrens entertainment is British Airways top priority! And so it should be! Which is why there are activity packs and selected programmes that are available as soon as you take your seat. Taking great care in providing a wide range of suitable content on board long haul flights for children of all ages, youll find all the important stuff including CBeebies, Cartoon Network and the Disney Channels. Not only that, there is a selection of movies the whole family will enjoy, including all the Disney classics and some great blockbusters. When their eyes get tired, your little ones can discover a range of innovative audio options including educational series and audiobooks.
