Just off the West Coast of Miami, the Bahamas is the ideal location for a Florida cruise and stay holiday. This collection of 700 islands along the brilliant blue Atlantic is a tropical paradise just waiting to be explored.

As the big city of the Bahamas, Nassau is a popular port of call on any cruise. The capital is a metropolitan hub, home to the best nightlight, restaurants and modern luxuries we're accustomed to. With British, Spanish and West African influences, this island's spirit is unique and evocative. North of Nassau is Paradise Island, a utopia just a short hop away, yet a world away from the big city. Here you can do absolutely nothing all day long, just lay on the perfect beaches, dine outdoors, and if the mood takes you stroll into the waters for a swim in the calm waters.

Despite being the closet Island to the United States, Grand Bahama Island is a world of its own. The distinctive European and West African vibe can be tasted in the food, heard in the music, watched in the dance, and embraced in the art which can be found all over the island. Head to Freeport at the heart of the island to find most of the action including lively restaurants and great shopping. A slower pace can be found at the Garden Of the Groves, a stunning botanical garden where traditional crafts can be found in a serene setting.

Carnival Cruise Line will always make room on a Bahamas cruise for a stop at their private island, Half Moon Cay. This tropical island is reserved purely for Carnival guests, and offers the perfect location to spend a few moments in paradise. The sands are powdery white and the shallow blue waters are crystal clear. Once again, you can do a much or as little as you like with excursions such as horseback riding in the sea, snorkeling and Kayaking available daily. Or you can just spend the day at an open-air bar sipping delicious rum cocktails and watching the day go by. The choice is yours.

This Island belongs to Norwegian Cruise Line, making it a unique stop along their Bahamas cruises. The island is located along the Berry Island chain and is just 120 miles from Florida's Fort Lauderdale. This mostly uninhabited island really does fulfil that desert island fantasy – with a few modern touches thrown in for good measure! The island is home to immaculately manicured beaches, restaurants, beach front bars and a waterpark. Most of what you purchase on shore can be charged back to room onboard, making this a really unique place to pitch up for the day.

The Bahamas has natural wonders that are a sight to behold. Long Island is the proud home of the world's deepest blue hole, a marine sinkhole which plunged 663 feet. The world's largest colony of flamingos – The Bahamas' national bird – lives here, and the third largest fringing barrier reef in the world is just waiting to be discovered. The Bahamas is also a bird watchers paradise, with hundreds of species to spot species including the beautiful Cuban Amazon Parrot

The beaches of the Bahamas are some of the best in the world. If you're a sun worshipper, this is place to pitch up with your sun lotion and while away an entire day. There are miles and miles of powder-soft pure-white sands, which turn into a delicate shade of pink in certain places. In the Bahamas there is a beach for everyone, from private beaches belonging to resorts, family friend places, active beaches and secluded spots where you'll feel like the whole place belongs to you.

Each of the islands in the Bahamas has a distinct style and a varied history. With that comes an abundance of crafts and textiles Andros is famed for its colorful batik as well as signature straw craft and wood carvings. Over on Grand Bahama Island you can practice your bartering in the International Bazaar and hopefully pick up some bargains. Many cruise ships will also doc at Nassau, where you'll find authentic crafts, Bahamian tea and sweets as soon as you step of the ship and into Festival Place

Whether you're looking for action on land or sea, you can find it in the Bahamas. There are championship golf courses which offer challenging rounds and breathtaking views. Many resorts also have outdoor tennis courts so you can practice your game and soak up some sun. For those who like to be out at sea, the calm waters offer a gentle playground for swimming, snorkeling along the corals and reefs and underwater shipwrecks, kayaking and sailing.
