Did you know that at Universal's Islands of Adventure, you can eat at the best theme park restaurant in the world?

That isn't just our opinion...

The legendary Mythos has been voted the Best Theme Park Restaurant in the World not once, but ten times by Theme Park Insider! And its accolades don't stop there, Mythos has also been featured in the Top 10 Theme Park Restaurants in USA Today's rankings, and is recognised as one of the top child-friendly restaurants in America.

So, let's dive into what makes Mythos so special and how you can be lucky enough to get a table during your Orlando holiday.

All About Mythos

Mythos is located within the Lost Continent at Universal's Islands of Adventure. It first opened back in 1999, meaning it's one of the park's original restaurants and has truly stood the test of time. The restaurant is one of just two full-service restaurants at Islands of Adventure - the other being Confisco Grille - making it perfect for a special occasion and holiday celebration.

Mythos’ Epic Design

The full-service restaurant's design is one of the most impressive things about this eatery which is built to look like a vast cave made from realistic rock formations and mythical carvings of ancient gods and goddesses. The building is seemingly held up on the shoulders of more statues of ancient warriors, and inside, the stone-like cavernous interior and details on the walls make it an atmospheric setting for a meal in one of their cosy, intricately decorated booths.

Across the walls are depictions of magical creatures and water gods, while the mythical River Styx - where souls are supposedly carried to the underworld in Greek mythology - runs through the heart of Mythos. Tumbling waterfalls and cute lighting, along with an amazing view of the park over the lagoon are the icing on the Mythos cake.

Drinking and Dining at Mythos

Let’s get down to the real reason you want to visit Mythos - the food and drink! To whet your palate, Mythos drinks menu is sure to keep any thirst at bay, with a full wine list, plus cocktails and soft drinks. Their cocktails are tasty and inventive, fitting in with the restaurant’s mythical theme. We recommend trying classics like the Mythos Margharita, or the Potion of the Gods, which contains spiced rum and raspberry liqueur.

The food menu at Mythos is best described as fusion, and they have a great range of options for both lunch and dinner. To keep things interesting, the menu rotates through Mediterranean, Asian and American dishes and changes four times per year to coincide with the seasons, so you can expect something different each time you visit. Their most famous dish is undoubtedly the Fork, Knife and Spoon Grilled Cheese, which is served in a bowl of Italian tomato soup complete with crispy pork belly and homemade chips.

Other fabulous must-try dishes include the spinakopita starter, and for mains, the Pad Thai or Pan-Roasted Wild Salmon. Mythos is certainly one of the best restaurants for those with varied tastes and appetites, as they have so many options to choose from, many of which can be made vegan or gluten-free. They also have an excellent kids menu which features less exotic flavours to keep everyone satisfied - think grilled cheese, creamy pasta, burgers and pizza.

While we're on the subject of food, let's not forget about the mouth-watering desserts on offer at Mythos! There are currently three to choose from: firstly, the Chocolate-Hazelnut Crème Brulee, complete with cookie crumble, fresh raspberries and whipped cream; or secondly, the

"Chocolate Banana Gooey cake - a flourless chocolate cake covered in caramel sauce, peanut butter ice cream and bananas. Last but not least is our personal favourite, the Graham Cracker Pudding, which is served hot and dripping in homemade apple cider caramel, biscuit crumbs and vanilla ice cream. To top things off, little guests can also opt for an adorable Mini Bana Split. It's almost impossible to choose so we recommend you each get something different and try them all!

Important Things To Know Before Visiting Mythos

As we mentioned earlier, Mythos is located on the Lost Continent, in Universal's Islands of Adventure. It's unlikely you won't be able to find it since its dramatic design often has people stopping in their tracks to stare! The restaurant is generally open during normal park hours, but also often closes an hour or two earlier than the park itself, so if the park closes at 9pm, expect the restaurant to close at 7pm or 8pm. You can double check online in advance or when you book a table. Speaking of reservations, you might be wondering exactly how you can dine at this incredible spot...

Reservations are essential here as walk-ins are pretty hard to come by. Luckily, it's easy to make a reservation either online via Universal Orlando or by phoning the reservations hotline. If you're planning to eat at a popular time, for example during lunch 12pm - 2pm, dinner 5pm - 7pm or on a weekend or holiday, make sure to book as far in advance as possible so as not to lose out. Our final tip to maximise your Mythos experience is to request where to sit when you book. Sitting by the huge windows or on their outdoor patio area are two of the best spots in the house thanks to the amazing views, so try and add this to your notes when booking a table!
