On the west-side of Florida looking out over the gorgeous Gulf Coast is the city of Bradenton, where diverse and fruitful culture meets sunny beaches. Unwind on a great selection of beaches, learn about the Floridian culture in many museums, and dedicate a day to visiting the neighbouring town of Sarasota to catch a glimpse of the local theatre and arts scene.

With plenty of old Florida charm, great accommodations in the area, and a long stretch of idyllic coastline, there’s no doubt that you’ll discover a different side to the Sunshine State in Bradenton.

Bradenton sits on the west side of Florida, separated from the Gulf of Mexico by some gorgeous barrier islands. The location offers an excellent mix of cosmopolitan city vibes and tropical paradise, as the city’s packed with great nightlife spots, museums, and cultural pastimes without being too far from the nearest beach. And beaches are certainly in abundance; taking under a 20-minute drive over to the barrier islands and you have some beautiful spots to lay your beach towels, like Bradenton Beach, Anna Maria Island, and North Longboat Key Beach.

Culture & Arts

The city has a lot to offer to coax your cultural and artistic interests. The area has a traditional Florida feel, thanks to the old-fashioned architecture, and must-see landmarks that promote the arts.

Riverwalk is a hub of culture and arts, which is certainly a must-see if you’re at all interested in what the local creatives get up to. For example, you can catch budding actors perform at the Bradenton Riverwalk Park Amphitheatre, a stage for all to enjoy a show in Bradenton’s gorgeous weather.

Around the Riverwalk Park area is also a collection of public art pieces too, many involving music. For example, if you stand between the Sound Dishes piece you can experiment with the various sound effects they create. Or, head to the Drum Yard where people passing by are encouraged to come beat some rhythms on the outdoor stainless-steel drums.

Another work of art around Riverwalk is the Big Eyes Big Ears piece, which from afar looks like a sculpture. A closer look and you’ll see that it’s actually a giant periscope that revolves, letting you see the riverside from every angle possible.

Museums & Galleries

Around the city are plenty of great museums to visit during your stay in Bradenton. The South Florida Museum has the largest collection of natural, cultural and scientific historic artefacts on the Gulf Coast. Here you can school yourself on prehistoric animals, archaeological material from the Paleo-Indian tribe who once lived in Bradenton, or watch the stars align inside the planetarium.

Also in the area is the Village of Arts which showcases wild and whacky artwork scattered around a neighbourhood, or Art Centre Manatee which is a unique gift shop and gallery for you to check out some works from the local townspeople.
