Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, also known as the “King of the Missions,” is a National Historic Landmark located in Oceanside, California. Founded in 1798, it reflects five periods of occupation: Luiseño Indian, Spanish Mission, Mexican Secularization, American Military, and Twentieth Century Restoration.

Among the 21 California missions, San Luis Rey stands out as the largest. Its impressive architecture and serene surroundings make it a must-visit. The mission is home to a community of Franciscan Friars who serve the spiritual needs of parishioners and visitors alike.

Open daily to the public, Mission San Luis Rey offers an interpretive museum with artifacts from Native American, Spanish, Mission, Mexican Secularization, and American Military periods. Your entrance ticket gains you entry into the museum, and takes you on a self-guided tour of the museum, and allows you access to the mission, the gardens, and the grounds. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or spiritual experiences, Mission San Luis Rey has something special to offer.
