Like many young children do, Jon McBride dreamed of going to space as a young boy. Little did he know that when he grew up his dreams would become a reality. After being selected by NASA in the first class of space shuttle astronauts in 1978, McBride went on to log more than 8,800 hours of flight time. In 1984, McBride became a member of the first crew that launched with the STS 41-G Challenger for an eight day mission. Also on board the STS 41-G was the first female astronaut Sally Ride and the first man to pilot a shuttle in orbit Robert Crippen. While up in orbit, the team deployed the Earth Radiatioån Budget Satellite and made scientific observations with the OSTA-3 pallet and Large Format Camera. It’s safe to say that when it comes to space, Jon McBride definitely knows his stuff!

So, what did he have to say in response to the questions asked by Ocean Florida customers? Let’s take a look…

How is water generated on the International Space Station?

How do you exercise in space?

What is your favorite space food?

What is the hardest thing about landing back on Earth after a long time in space with no gravity?

What is your lasting memory of your journey? Was there one particular part which remains in your mind?
