Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
- Orlando is known for its world-class theme parks, pristine golf courses, and as a prime location for exploring nearby beaches. Or in other words, O-town is where you find all the holiday worth having.
- Expect to see something exciting around every corner in this subtropical paradise, whether travelling as a large group or a family get-away.
- So, get ready to dream bigger and travel better, as we begin to plan the perfect planning Orlando trip together.
Apply for an ESTA
Applying for your ESTA should be a top priority once you have secured that dream Orlando holiday. Whether submitting for a group or individually, this quick online form allows the entire party to enter anywhere in the US for up to 90 days. To avoid any unnecessary stress, you will want to make sure to do this at least three days prior to travel. But the good news is that once it’s done, your ESTA is valid for two years.
Buy theme park tickets in advance
No one wants to miss out on Orlando’s crowning jewels – the theme parks. So, to make sure you’re not on the wrong side of the gates, buying tickets in advance is definitely recommended. Pre-bought tickets not only guarantee that you will secure a spot, but it is also considerably cheaper to do so. Plus, it means you can also start booking your FastPass+ reservations, allowing you to queue jump your favourite rides.
Book theme park restaurants
If you don’t want to miss your chance to dine in Cinderella Castle or be their guest at the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant, then booking in advance is a must. Bookings can be made as early as 180 days in advance either online, by phone, or through the app and will provide that extra security that you’ll be seated at some of the most popular dining spots in the parks.
Pack comfortable clothing
Comfortable shoes are a must for any Orlando holiday as you’ll be racking up a fair amount of steps just on the theme parks alone. This also means you will need a lot of lightweight clothing to make sure you don’t get too hot. And even though it’s called the Sunshine State, you will most likely be in for a downpour or two. So, to save money on hiked up prices, you’re best to bring your own waterproofs as well.
Pace yourself
There is so much to see and do on holidays to Orlando that pacing yourself is essential to make the most of your time. We advise you to plan your park days wisely, creating a rough itinerary of which attractions and activities you’re most interested in. Make use of Disney’s FastPass and reservations to limit waiting times and remember to always stay hydrated and eat well. After all, you’ll need as much energy as possible when it comes to the theme parks. Avoid overpacking your schedule and always make room for a little downtime along the way.
Explore more than theme parks
While it’s tempting to get carried away in the thrills and spills of the theme parks, there is so much more of Orlando to be uncovered. Soak up nature in one of the many parks or head to GatorWorld for a face-to-face encounter with Florida’s snappiest star – the alligator. There are also plenty of museums to brush up on a few facts, while the Orlando Science Center is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults alike.
Stock up on insect repellent
Florida’s warm and humid climate isn’t only inviting to us sun-starved Brits, it’s also inviting to several pesky insects, including the peskiest of them all – the mosquito. To stave them off, you will need a good amount of insect repellent on hand, particularly near bodies of water. It’s recommended to apply in the early mornings and the evenings in the hotter months.
Download the My Disney Experience app
One of our biggest tips for your holiday to Orlando is to download the My Disney Experience app. Downloading this app will make managing your plans inside the parks a lot easier. With it, you can make dining reservations, book ‘fast passes’ and check opening hours and showtimes. Another great benefit to the app is that you can also see current wait times and for some attractions even book your spot in the queue so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait.
Be flexible
Being flexible on an Orlando holiday is a must. No one likes a change of plan but sometimes it simply has to happen. Weather, crowds, and unexpected circumstances may disrupt your day. Staying flexible with your itinerary means no change of plan needs to spell disaster and you can still make the most of any circumstance you may face. After all, Orlando has so much to choose from, so you will always find another option.
Bring your own snacks and water
A trip to the theme parks can get expensive, especially when you take a look at the food and drink prices. But did you know Walt Disney World Resort allows you to bring your own food and drinks (non-alcoholic) into the parks? This can be especially useful for any dietary restrictions or to keep the little ones satisfied throughout the day. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated while you’re stuck in those long lines.
Keep some extra luggage space
From extravagant malls to novelty theme park shops, there are far too many options in Orlando to get out your credit card. Plus, our Classic Explorer package can provide each person in your group with a free $20 voucher for The Mall at Millenia, ensuring a little holiday shopping will be a must. So, to save you from having to spend even more money on another suitcase, we recommend keeping some extra luggage space free.
Universal Epic Universe
Finally. Universal Epic Universe has opened its portals! Enter worlds beyond your wildest dreams across 5 new themed lands that catapult you through realms of fantasy, mystery, discovery, and magic.
Aboard Stardust Racers in Celestial Park, you can fly through the cosmos on this dual-launch racing coaster, reaching speeds of up to 62mph and dizzying heights of up to 133 feet.
On Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic, you can travel via omnidirectional lift to the trial of Dolores Umbridge with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
And in Super Nintendo World, you can take on Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, an interactive motion-simulated journey, where you can collect coins to win against Team Bowser and win the Golden Cup.
That's just a teaser what's on offer in Orlando's newest major theme park.
Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom is where Disney dreams come true. Cinderella Castle stands as the focal point amidst a whole host of wonders. Feel the heart pounding on rides such as TRON Lightcycle/Run and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad then dine in style at impeccably themed restaurants like Be Our Guest and Liberty Tree Tavern. And for the perfect way to end your fairytale days, the Happily Ever After fireworks extravaganza is sure to please.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Transport yourself to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood with a visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Discover how your favourite action movie moments come to life in Indiana Jones: Epic Stunt Spectacular. Or embark on an adventure to a galaxy far far away with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Maybe you just want to belt out Let It Go at the top of your lungs instead? For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration has you covered.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Take a walk on the wild side and explore the wonders of nature at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Journey through six incredible lands featuring thrilling rides, fantastic shows, and up-close encounters. Everything from Avatar’s World of Pandora to wildlife safari adventures await you here. Start your day admiring the park icon, Tree of Life, featuring over 300 animal carvings and end it with a feast in the tropics at the famous Rainforest Café.
Universal Studios
Home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Land, and character encounters galore, plus a plethora of fabulous dining options, Universal Studios is one of Florida’s must-see destinations. It is also where you’ll find the most famous family on TV – The Simpsons. With a whole Simpsons land on offer, you can sample Homer’s favourite tipple, Duff Beer, at Moe’s, feast out in Krusty Burger, or join the famous five on a ride through Krustyland in The Simpsons Ride.
Universal's Islands of Adventure
Embark on a magical ride with Hagrid as you soar through the Forbidden Forest in Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, face off with a T-Rex in the Jurassic Park ride and fight alongside some of your favourite superheroes in Marvel Super Hero Island. And for the little ones, Dr. Suess Character Zone provides plenty of opportunity for their own storybook adventure, including meet and greets with the likes of Sam I Am and The Grinch only at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
SeaWorld
Enjoy the spectacular wonders of the sea at Orlando’s top aquatic attraction, SeaWorld. Come face to face with killer whales, dolphins, and sea turtles, get drenched in thrilling water rides, prepare to be dazzled by live shows, and learn all about SeaWorld’s conservation and rehabilitation efforts. But it’s not just stars of the sea you’ll find here. Since 2019, Sesame Street Land has been part of SeaWorld too. So, make sure to say hello to Elmo and friends while you’re there.
Peppa Pig
Hop aboard Daddy Pig’s Roller Coaster then meet Peppa and her friends at the Fun Fair, before exploring Grandpa Pig’s Greenhouse. And that’s just a taste of the oinktastic options you will find at Peppa Pig Theme Park. End the day by grabbing a beanbag and relaxing with your favourite episodes of Peppa Pig on the big screen at the indoor cinema. The park is also a Certified Autism Centre, where trained staff and tailored experiences make it fully inclusive for everyone.
Downtown Orlando
For authentic Orlando shopping, you may want to head downtown. Neighbourhoods such as Thornton Park, Mills 50, and Winter Park offer a range of specialty boutiques and one-of-a-kind items. Whether you’re after a bargain or have more expensive tastes, you are likely to find what you’re looking for just a short venture outside of the main tourist district. Plus, if you’re in the market for something vintage, Antiques Row in Ivanhoe Village has everything from vintage clothing to old vinyl records.
Orlando International Premium Outlets
Situated in one of Orlando’s top visited destinations, International Drive, this place is every shopaholic’s dream. Being Florida’s largest outlet destination, you are sure to find what you need here. It’s home to more than 180 brand name and designer outlet stores offering savings of 25% to 65% every day. There really is no better place to grab a discount on some of the best labelled pieces, from the likes of Marc Jacobs to Ralph Lauren.
Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores
Located close to Walt Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores has a wide variety of choice. Take home your own piece of Orlando sporting merch from the Team Outlet Store, set the little ones loose in the Toy Company, and shop the latest fashion at Old Navy. Then, when you’re all shopped out, why not grab a much-needed caffeine hit from The World of Coffee. And as if that’s not enough, Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores also offers a free shopping shuttle to and from selected hotels.
Universal CityWalk
There is always a buzz at this Universal Studios Resort shopping destination. The Universal Studios Store is your one-stop-shop for souvenirs from Universal movies and attractions, while many of the restaurants offer their own unique brand of souvenirs too. You’ll find all the sweet treats your mind can conjure up at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium’s shop, Candy Smith, while Hard Rock merch, such as rockin’ t-shirts and hats can be purchased at the Rock Shop in the Hard Rock Café.
Space 220
For an out of this world view (quite literally) you will definitely want to secure a spot at Space 220. Featuring a celestial panorama of Earth from your very own space station, it is the ultimate dining adventure. And the food’s pretty spectacular too. Choose from either a two-course lunchtime meal or a three-course dinner meal, consisting of a variety of tasty options from Galactic Miso Salmon to Space Pad “Thai”.
Three Broomsticks, Universal’s Islands of Adventure
Immerse yourself in the magical ambience of the Three Broomsticks, straight from the pages of Harry Potter. Tuck into a taste of home with shepherd’s pie and fish and chips or select The Great Feast – a platter for four consisting of smoked chicken and ribs. And wash it all down with the wizarding world favourite, Butter Beer. This cosy, snow-capped inn is the perfect choice for all witches and wizards. But don’t worry, muggles are welcome too.
The Cowfish, Universal’s CityWalk
Where Japan meets the US and burgers meet sushi, The Cowfish is a unique culinary delight. Sample their famous Burgushi for the best of both worlds or pick from their equally delicious burger or sushi menus. Think burgers sandwiched with jalapeno bacon, sake-marinated Asian pear, and black truffle cheese, while the sushi comes with spicy salmon, tempura coconut shrimp, shitake mushrooms and much more. And for dessert, sink your teeth into the Lucky Yuzu Cheesecake, which blends silky vanilla cheesecake with fortune cookie crust for another specialty fusion.
Prato, Winter Park
For a slice of Italy in the Sunshine State, head on over to Prato. With a menu consisting of authentic pasta, pizzas, and more, you’ll be transported to Mediterranean culinary heaven. Located in Orlando’s small-town suburb, Winter Park, this cosy space incorporates both modern and rustic design. It also includes a long bar and year-round patio seating for a vibrant, communal atmosphere.
Senor Frog’s, International Drive
Entertainment is only a hop, skip, and a jump away at Senor Frog’s. Here, you can tuck into authentic Mexican grub amid a party atmosphere of live music, fun games, and interactive performances. This colourful cantina is the perfect choice for any celebratory meal. What’s more, we recommend grabbing yourself one of their iconic yard glass cocktails. Cheers to a night you’ll never forget!
The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show, International Drive
Feast upon unlimited pizza, salad, and desserts as the funniest dinner show in town has you in fits of giggles. Watch magic unfold before your eyes, listen to side-splitting improvisational comedy, and witness the most mysterious mind reading perfomance. Plus, by booking your Florida holiday with Ocean Florida, you don’t even have to pay for this one. Yes, that’s right, with our Ocean Explorer package, your free tickets to The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show are just one of the many perks.
The Boathouse, Disney Springs
Sometimes it’s all about the setting. And The Boathouse certainly got that memo. Surrounded by gorgeous waterfront views, this surf and turf establishment is the perfect spot to unwind from the thrills of the theme parks. Delve into a menu of seafood, steaks, burgers, and sandwiches while admiring their stellar showcase of retro boats from the ‘30s, ‘40s, and ‘50s. You can even take to the water with a splash aboard the unique amphicar for a 20-minute guided tour.
Taverna Opa, Pointe Orlando
Taverna Opa invites you to have an unforgettable dining experience with authentic Greek cuisine and entertainment. Delight your tastebuds with their famed lamb chops and moussaka while Mediterranean music transports you to Greece and nightly belly dancers get the party started. This family-friendly atmosphere, located just minutes from Orlando’s top attractions, is the perfect choice for your evening meal and it even has a family menu for added value for money.
If you’re chasing the sun, May to August is the ideal time frame for a holiday to Orlando. However, for quieter park times and more comfortable temperatures, mid-November to December is your best bet. If going in Spring, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is always a highlight. But the good news is that there really is no bad time to visit Orlando. With year-round good weather and a calendar of events such as rodeos, art exhibits, and festivals, any time in Orlando is sure to be a joy.
Renting a car is advisable if you want to explore more of Orlando than just the theme parks (and there is definitely much more to see). Having a car also gives you the convenience of holidaying without having to stick to public transport timetables.
If you choose car hire with Ocean Florida, you'll get 24-hour roadside assistance, free drop-offs, comprehensive insurance, online check-ins, and a FREE eSIM with 20GB of data to help with route navigation. A month before you travel, you’ll get an Ocean Florida branded email from the service provider, Hubby eSIM, with simple steps to download, install, and activate the Hubby eSIM app, along with a password to get started.
Choosing between an Orlando villa or hotel is no easy task. Villas offer privacy and home comforts at an affordable price while hotels offer convenience and amenities galore, with many situated in the theme parks themselves. Ultimately the choice comes down to your preferred location, budget, and size of group. Whichever option you choose, we can ensure the right accommodation for you with our superb selection of hotels and villas to suit all tastes.
The time difference in Orlando varies due to daylight saving time changes. However, Orlando is typically four to five hours behind the UK. This means once you land in the Sunshine State you can take advantage of that extra bit of time you’ve been given.
Orlando has two main airports for international flights – Orlando International Airport and Orlando Sanford International Airport. Orlando International Airport is generally the preferred choice due to its proximity to the centre and extensive flight options. But while Orlando Sanford International Airport is a little further out, it does offer more budget airline choices which may suit those looking to save a little extra.
Yes, there is plenty of choice when it comes to vegetarian and vegan dining in Orlando. Most menus in the Orlando restaurant scene will have a selection of vegetarian and vegan choices. Even Disney is getting in on the action with their iconic Dole Whip offered in several vegan varieties, including refreshing pineapple flavour. And if you’re on the hunt for full vegan restaurants, we highly recommend Loving Hut and Ethos Vegan Kitchen.
When it comes to theme parks in Orlando, we know it can be costly. But the good news is that there are ways to save money. Firstly, booking well in advance is always advised. You should also consider multi-day passes for better value and look for any special promotions or discounts on offer. Getting a Kids Eat Free card is also a fabulous saving. Any child 11 or younger can get a free meal in more than 125 theme park restaurants by purchasing at least one adult meal at the same time.
Yes, Orlando has many cultural attractions to see. Check out some of the best ballet, opera, and symphony concerts at the state-of-the-art Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Explore a diverse collection of art and exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art. Or soak up some history at one of the many museums in the city. Favourites include Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, offering recreations of the ill-fated ship and guided tours, and Wells’ Built Museum of African American History & Culture, which tells the story of Orlando’s African American community.
