Picking the perfect Walt Disney World hotel is no Mickey Mouse task, especially when there are so many magical options to choose from. However, if you’re looking for classic luxury, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is an obvious choice. At this deluxe resort, guests will discover award-winning dining, dazzling views, and stunning pools, all just moments from those world-class theme parks…

History of Disney’s Contemporary Resort

When Disney’s Contemporary Resort opened in 1971, it was one of the two original flagship hotels, along with Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Wilton Becket’s iconic A-frame design, which features an indoor monorail, is the signature piece of the resort’s futuristic architecture.

Yet Mr Becket isn’t the only prominent name of the resort. Imagineer Mary Blair created a 90-foot hand painted mural which has now become a focal point of the central atrium. The resort was built to encompass modern luxury with convenient access to the theme parks and has seen several changes throughout the years, including the expansion of the Garden Wing to include more rooms.

What’s Near Disney’s Contemporary Resort

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is its close proximity to Magic Kingdom, which you can walk to or hop on complimentary transport. And it’s not just Cinderella’s Castle that’s next door, you are also just a monorail stop away from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Both resorts offer unique stores, restaurants, theming, and vibrant atmospheres that you can explore. However, please note that the pools, splash pads, and fitness centres at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are strictly for their hotel guests.

Dining and Entertainment at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

As a guest at a Deluxe resort, you can expect impeccable dining. The award-winning California Grille serves up not just treats for your tastebuds but also a gift for the eyes with its rooftop location looking out onto the wonders of Magic Kingdom.

Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for nostalgia, look no further than Steakhouse 71. Named after the year Disney’s Contemporary Resort first opened, it offers All-American dishes inspired by some of Walt’s favourites in a casual setting.

For somewhere super relaxed, Chef Mickey’s is a buffet with a twist, as Mickey and friends mingle with guests as they enjoy their meal.

In between meals there’s a lot to keep the whole family entertained. Enjoy those hot Florida days at one of the themed pools or cool off indoors at The Game Station, where you’ll find a range of fun arcade games. As the sun goes down, gather the family at the Courtyard Campfire Pit for marshmallows and a crackling fire or settle down for one of your favourite Disney films with Movies Under the Stars.
