For anyone dreaming of a future trip to
Disney World, there has never been a better time to start planning. Walt Disney World recently announced plans for the biggest-ever expansion to Magic Kingdom, along with additional new rides and shows in the other parks, meaning guests will have dozens of exciting new attractions and entertainment to look forward to. Curious about what’s coming to the Happiest Place on Earth? Here’s everything you need to know.
What to know about Magic Kingdom at Disney World
Magic Kingdom is one of the most exciting parks in Disney World, covering six themed areas with the enchanting Cinderella Castle in the middle. The areas include Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, along with Main Street, U.S.A., where Disney’s world-famous parades take place. Magic Kingdom is currently home to more rides, shows and attractions than any other Disney park - which is only set to continue. This means there’s plenty to get excited about for anyone already thinking about a dream holiday to Disney World. Although there’s no concrete timeline yet, Disney World has already begun preparations for the expansion, with construction on certain areas beginning early this year.
Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Expansion
Pixar Cars Attractions in Frontierland
The biggest announcement in Disney World’s expansion plans is the new Pixar Cars-themed area, which will be an extension of Frontierland. Families can dive into the world of Lightning McQueen in Radiator Springs thanks to two new attractions, one of which will take visitors on a rally race through the mountains, while the other will be designed for smaller guests, ensuring the whole family can participate in supercar fun. The racing area will be built where the current Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are located, removing classic attractions to make way for a thrilling new zone.
Villain Land
A land dedicated to Disney’s most wicked villains is one of the most anticipated Disney openings of the next few years. Promising potions, poisons and mysterious attractions, villains from all the major Disney films will appear in this new land, offering an alternative take for older guests. Disney hasn’t yet confirmed what rides are coming, but there will be two major attractions, along with dining and shopping, and the land will be located near Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland.
New Nighttime Parade
For something to look forward to as soon as this year, Magic Kingdom’s summer nights will be even more magical, thanks to a new nighttime parade. Beginning in the summer of 2025, the parade, known as Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, will be a new and extended successor of the popular Main Street Electrical Parade. In a similar fashion, it will use dazzling lights, sound and music to bring characters from Disney movies like Frozen and Peter Pan to life.
Pirates of the Caribbean Dining
Everyone already loves the amazing Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Magic Kingdom, and if you haven’t yet been, you’re in for an even bigger treat after the park expansion. Disney is set to add a swash-buckling Pirates of the Caribbean-themed dining experience to Magic Kingdom, which will be in Adventureland. The tavern and lounge will serve a delicious range of food and drinks and feature fun animatronics and pirate decor, with a provisional opening date in late 2025.
Even More Disney World Attractions
Yes, there’s more! Disney’s expansion plans don’t stop at Magic Kingdom, with new rides and entertainment planned for the other parks, with the possibility of more being announced as the expansion continues.
Monsters. Inc Land
Disney's Hollywood Studios will be welcoming some unusual characters with the addition of Monsters Inc. land, where visitors will find Mike, Sully and Boo and a variety of fun activities. Currently, the land’s biggest attraction will allow guests to explore the Laugh Factory from the movies, featuring the first-ever suspended coaster at Disney.
Chevrolet Test Track
At EPCOT, visitors of all ages can learn more about the history of cars and feel the thrill at Chevrolet’s upcoming reimagined test track, which will arrive in the park in 2025.
Tropical Americas
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will be getting a huge, adventurous upgrade with an extension themed around ‘tropical Americas’ opening in 2027. The new attractions here will be focused on the fun, animated film Encanto and the ultimate explorer, Indiana Jones. To create the zone, Disney is building a replica village called Pueblo Esperanza, which will feel like it's immersed in the Amazon rainforest. The Indiana Jones attraction will be set in an ancient, mystical Mayan temple, while the Encanto-themed attraction will whisk you into the movie’s storyline.
Musical and Stag Performances
For guests old and young, Disney is also set to create some magical new stage shows and live entertainment across the parks. In
Magic Kingdom, the Hall of Presidents is an animatronic stage show celebrating the history of the various presidents of the U.S.A., offering a fun, educational experience. The show has been closed for refurbishment but is set to reopen this year. Zootopia: Better Zoogether! It will be located in
Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park and is a 4D theatre show for all ages using 3D glasses and special effects to bring characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde into the real world. There’s also The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains Unfairly Ever After at Disney's Hollywood Studios, with the latter best for younger guests who aren’t too scared of the villains.
