Beyond the neon lights and cascading coins of slot machines lies another side to
Las Vegas – a side that can be treasured by all the family. Whether it’s admiring the natural beauty of the city, finding hidden gems, or being wowed by a spectacular show, there are many opportunities to hit the jackpot beyond the casinos…
Fremont Street
Situated in downtown Las Vegas lies Fremont Street. This historic and distinct entertainment features a host of holiday delights. You can catch a free concert with dazzling performances almost every night. Or if you’re feeling brave, the iconic SlotZilla zipline sends you zooming over the neon lights of downtown’s most vibrant entertainment district. Fremont Street also offers a range of places to eat, from trendy bars and restaurants to fast food, all at a generally more affordable rate than the Strip. End your night with Viva Vision Light Show, a dazzling display of visuals and music set on the world’s largest LED canopy screen.
Helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon
Step inside the holiday brochures and discover the
Grand Canyon in the grandest way possible. A helicopter tour allows you to admire this natural wonder in all its glory. Although the Grand Canyon is in northwest Arizona, tours beginning in Vegas run seven days a week, and can be booked prior to arrival or at your hotel desk. The tours range from half-day to full-day experiences and can be combined with other attractions to suit all preferences. One thing is for sure - have your camera at the ready for wow-worthy views of some of the world’s most iconic sights.
World-class shows
Another great alternative to casinos in Las Vegas is the world-class shows that run year-round. Depending on when you go, you may be able to time it with a residency of one of your favourite pop stars, or perhaps a tribute act would suffice.
Here are some of our favourite music artists with Las Vegas residencies in 2026:
Kelly Clarkson

Another highlight in the Vegas show calendar is Cirque du Soleil. Featuring magnificent performances from a range of acrobatic talents, this is one that all the family can enjoy. You will also find top-tier magicians and laugh-out-loud comedians taking to the stage in Sin City.
Indulge in a Vegas buffet
It’s not a true U.S. holiday without eating like the locals. It’s well-known that America provides big portions, and in Vegas, you can truly indulge - from seafood extravaganzas to dessert heaven. Buffets here vary in prices, from cheap and cheerful to more expensive options offering more luxurious food items.
We love Chin Chin on The Strip for Asian cuisine, particularly its sushi and generous breakfast buffet, which keeps us coming back. But no matter how much you’ve gorged out, remember that whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Retail therapy
With so many distinctive styles of shops, retail therapy in Vegas is an experience of its own. Start your shopping spree downtown, where you will find Container Park, a unique complex filled with repurposed shipping containers now housing a variety of clothing, art, and specialty gifts.
If you’re looking for high-end luxury, The Shops at Crystals has an amazing collection of over 50 of the finest brands, including Gucci, Chanel, and Prada. And for a slice of true Vegas shopping, The Venetian Resort includes Grand Canal Shoppes, where you can explore 160 stores in the Italian- inspired surroundings of one of the Strip’s finest hotels.
Calico Tank Trail
For those who like to remain active on holiday, there are several trails to choose from. However, one that we highly recommend is Calico Tank Trail. Located in Red Rock Canyon, this popular hike is known for its otherworldly red sandstone and panoramic views of Las Vegas. A roughly 2.5 miles roundtrip, this moderate-level hike does have some challenging sections that require rock scrambling so it may not be for everyone. That said, the effort is well worth it.
Along the way, hikers are rewarded with striking rock formations, narrow canyons, and a natural water basin at the summit that often holds rainwater after storms. The trail also offers plenty of opportunities to stop, take photos, and enjoy the quiet contrast to the city below. So, if you want to escape the chaos of the casinos, slowing down in nature is a great alternative.
The Stratosphere Tower
Stratosphere Tower is one of the highest observation decks in the United States, standing at a whopping 1,149 feet tall. It is located inside the Stratosphere hotel at the northern end of the Strip and features a 360-degree view of the Vegas skyline, which you can enjoy with award-winning cuisine at Top of the World restaurant. But it’s not simply an observation tower; daredevils can get their fix here, too. Choose from a range of thrill rides, including X-Scream, a roller coaster-like ride, and Big Shot, where riders are shot up the tower at 45mph before plummeting back to Earth.
The Neon Museum
The Neon Museum offers a unique way for families to explore the story of Las Vegas through its iconic signs. Here, you’ll find restored neon signage from historic hotels, casinos, and landmarks, bringing the city’s colourful past to life. You can also take guided tours, including history and movie-themed, providing fascinating insight into how Las Vegas has evolved over the decades. Visitors can also take memorable souvenir photos among the glowing signs, making it both educational and fun.
Flamingo Wildlife Habitat
The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, located at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel, is a peaceful oasis right in the heart of the Strip and home to a flock of Chilean flamingos, as well as swans, pelicans, koi fish, and turtles. It’s a perfect spot to slow the pace, especially for families with younger children who will enjoy spotting the animals and exploring the greenery. Open daily, the habitat offers a calm contrast to the surrounding bright lights and provides a refreshing break from sightseeing.
