Road Trip Tips

•    There’s no doubt that much of the appeal of Florida is sunshine, but for a more comfortable Naples to Miami road trip, aim for the less humid months of Spring and Autumn.
•    Be sure to bring a selection of clothing. After all, you may be soaking up the rays beachside one minute and trudging through marshy swamps the next.
•    While we all might like to think technology won’t fail us, it’s always handy to have a backup road map just in case.
•    Packing safety essentials is a must. Before setting off, be sure to include a first aid kit, insect repellent, and plenty of sunscreen.
•    Stocking up on water bottles can be costly. Your best bet is to bring a reusable one.

Your Itinerary

Now that you have the nitty-gritty covered, it’s time to dive into the fun stuff – what to see and do. Although roughly only 2 hours in normal traffic, this southern Florida road trip is crammed with gems. There are two main routes when travelling from Naples to Miami. The most direct route is the I-75, but if you’re after something a little more scenic, the Tamiami Trail can provide it. So, whether you’re wanting to get up close and personal with some gators, soak up city culture or roam the white sands of picture-perfect settings, there’s a little something for everyone on your Naples to Miami voyage.

Sights to See En Route

Marco Island (30-minute drive from Naples)

Firstly, no road trip from Naples to Miami would be complete without a stop off at the beach. Part of Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands, Marco Island is a white sand paradise. Tigertail Beach and South Beach are the two main public beaches. You can simply kick back and enjoy the view or take advantage of the superb shelling that Tigertail Beach has to offer. And for when those hunger pangs call out, you are just a stone’s throw away from some of the freshest seafood on offer.

Alligator Alley (50-minute drive from Naples)

If catching a glimpse of some snappy gators is on your Florida checklist, you may just be in luck. A road trip from Naples to Miami allows you to pass through Alligator Alley. This 80-mile stretch of road is prime property for these guys. Gators may be the star of the show here, but it is actually a wildlife hub. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered Florida panther. Crossing through the Everglades, this legendary area is a favourite for many road-trippers. However, due to its remoteness, rest stops and gas stations are few and far between, so, be prepared.

Fort Lauderdale (1-hour 40-minute drive from Naples)

Known as the ‘Venice of America,’ with over 3,000 miles of canals, Fort Lauderdale should not be missed. This laid-back city prides itself on pristine sandy beaches, exquisite waterfront dining, and hiking trails galore. Kids can get creative at the Young at Art Museum (a unique hands-on children’s art museum) or the whole family can explore the kaleidoscope of marine life in a glass-bottom boat. For any wildlife enthusiast, Flamingo Gardens is definitely worth a visit. This place boasts one of the largest collections of Florida native wildlife.

Hollywood (2-hour drive from Naples)

Hollywood, Florida may not be home to movie royalty, like its Californian counterpart, but it is equally enticing. Nestled between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, this coastal city has a lot to offer. Dazzling turquoise waters, impeccably soft sand, and a palm tree-lined boardwalk make up the famed Hollywood Beach - the perfect place to laze away a good few hours. But it’s not all beachside vibes here. Hollywood is home to a thriving arts community and can be found in abundance in the downtown area. You will also find green spaces galore in this South Florida gem, with over 30 parks to choose from.

Your Final Destination

So, you’ve made it to your destination. Your road trip from Naples to Miami may be complete, but the fun certainly doesn’t stop there. Once in Miami, there is an array of activities to choose from. Your first stop should be Ocean Drive - one of the most popular areas of Miami, and for good reason. Art Deco architectural delights greet you on one side of the street, while bronzed roller skaters whizz by on the other, all to the sound of Latin music from the many restaurants and bars. But while Ocean Drive screams quintessential Miami, there is far more to explore. Nearby Zoo Miami is the largest zoo in Florida and is well worth a visit. Countless malls and boutiques make Miami a shopper’s paradise. And, if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, you are also conveniently located close to Everglades National Park.
