There’s nothing quite like a good run for getting you into a meditative state. And nowhere quite like Orlando for helping you reach a Sunshine State of mind. Staying active here isn’t just about burning calories, it’s about taking the road less travelled on routes that uncover authentic Florida’s natural beauty.

From lakeside trails to forest expeditions, there is plenty of terrain to explore for seasoned runners or beginners. And if you want to add a splash of Disney magic, you can also find several trails throughout the theme parks. So, lace up those trainers, and let’s make your dream getaway as simple as ready, set, Florida.

Lake Eola Loop

Located in downtown Orlando, Lake Eola combines stunning views with an urban setting. This 1.8km circular trail takes an average of 19 minutes to complete and along the way you are surrounded by the shimmering lake, tall trees, and graceful swans. The route is paved and flat, making it a great option for beginner runners especially. If you find you’re working up too much of a sweat, there are plenty of cafes around the lake to grab a refreshment. Or you can treat yourself to a calming paddle around the lake on one of the popular swan boats.

Cady Way Trail

Extending northeast from the Fashion Square Mall through Orange County, the Cady Way Trail provides a smooth and easy run through neighbourhoods, parks, and scenic spots. What makes this an enticing option is that if you get peckish along the way you’re never far from a great restaurant to recharge your batteries. One of the most heavily used trails at evenings and weekends, you will want to time your run just right if you want a bit more privacy. This route is also popular for biking if you want to mix things up a little.

Turkey Lake Loop

If your furry friend is on-board this holiday, Turkey Lake Loop, with its leashed pets allowance is one to consider. This loop takes you away from the hustle and bustle, with a route around the calming waters of the lake and lush natural landscape. And if the Florida sun is getting too much, trees dotted around the lake will provide some much needed shade. Also, be sure to keep on the lookout for wildlife, with sightings of birds and turtles a regular occurrence. After your run, you can relax by the lake, enjoy a picnic, or simply take in the views, making it a perfect spot for an active day outdoors.

Lake Baldwin Running Trail

This buzzing 12-foot-wide multi-use trail is great for the whole family to enjoy. Located in the Baldwin Park area, this trail offers a refreshing mix of urban and natural environments, making it ideal for runners of all levels. Along the way you’ll pass several points of interest for a little respite including Veteran’s Memorial Park and Baldwin Lake Village Centre which features several restaurants and shopping. This trail also connects to the Cady Way Trail. So, if you’re feeling ambitious you may want to tackle both.

Orlando Wetlands

With a variety of terrain, including marshes, forests, and grassland, this route is ideal for seasoned runners looking for a holiday challenge. Covering a 6.3km distance, expect to take just over an hour to complete it. But as you wind your way through miles of unpaved trails, you may be lucky enough to encounter some of Florida’s finest wildlife, including the infamous gator (which may lead some to pick up their pace!). And if you want to learn a few facts along the way, the park also serves as an educational hub, with signs along the trail offering insight into the local ecosystem, wildlife, and water management efforts.

Orlando Urban Trail

Starting at Weber Street and Magnolia Avenue, this trail takes you on a scenic journey from the concrete jungle of Downtown to the tranquillity of Lake Formosa and beyond. Perfect for all fitness levels, it is approximately three miles long and offers an enticing mix of city exploration and nature. En route, you’ll pass some of Orlando’s cultural and historical landmarks. One standout is the Orlando Museum of Art, which sits just off the trail. Another is Harry P. Leu Gardens, a 50-acre botanical oasis. These landmarks provide interesting spots to stop and explore if you’re looking for more to do during your keep fit session.

Walt Disney World Resort trails

Last but not least, we have the crowning glory of Orlando - Walt Disney World. It’s not just the epic rides that get the adrenaline going here…

Magic Kingdom

Delve into the wilderness with a 3.1 mile long pathway through Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort or admire the views of Magic Kingdom as you wind along the path of Seven Seas Lagoon to connect Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Epcot

This theme park offers a wide range of running routes to choose from. Several jogging paths around Crescent Lake can be found at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s Beach Club Resort while more challenging 4-mile routes are available at Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Hotels. You can also bask in the glory of Barefoot Bay with an invigorating jog on the 1.4-mile trail around it.

Animal Kingdom

For those want who a quick morning jog, Animal Kingdom has a couple of shorter routes to choose from. Here you’ll find a 1-mile paved trail connecting the Disney All Star Resorts and a 0.75 mile promenade loop around Lake Dorado at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
