Welcome to Key Largo, the northernmost and largest of the Florida Keys, packed full of sun-soaked vistas, plentiful wildlife, and a collection of beaches ripe for relaxing on. Bursting with hardwood forests, winding creeks, and two national parks, the area certainly ranks as one of the state’s most scenic destinations.

Many have taken to coining it the ‘Diving Capital of the World’, thanks to the barrier island holding North America’s only living coral reef. Take a scuba trip in this neck of the woods, and you’ll be in for an exclusive treat as you can see the USA’s beautiful sea life through crystal clear waters.

If you consider yourself at one with nature, then you’re definitely in the right place to soak up South Florida’s incredibly exotic surroundings.

Things to do in Key Largo

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Key Largo is home to the protected John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, North America’s only living coral reef. Discover why the island is named the ‘Diving Capital of the World’ as you marvel at the incredible sea life in all its glory through the blue waters of the Largo Sound River. On this state park you can take up snorkelling and scuba tours, see the sights through a glass bottom boat, take a kayak or paddleboat out to sea, or even set sail on your own rental boat.

With designated fishing areas, a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and 70 nautical square miles of National State Park to explore, you’ll be amazed by what’s on offer for you to feel at one with nature.

Dolphin Plus Key Largo
One animal most associated with this side of America, particularly in the Florida Keys area, are dolphins. A trip to Key Largo means you’ll have the chance to visit Dolphin Plus, a home to a pod of exotic dolphins to enjoy a swim with.

Perfect for a family outing, you and the clan will have a whale of a time mingling with these beautiful creatures through programmes like Trainer and Marine Biologist for a Day, Dolphin Exploration Lab, and a Shallow Water Dolphin Encounter.

Restaurants in Key Largo
Blessed with such a beautiful setting, Florida’s local restaurants have certainly used the environment to their advantage and concocted stunning foodstuffs to match. The island’s situated just south of Florida in the centre between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, so you’ll be in for an array of exotic seafoods above all things. For a taste of the local cuisine you’ll love authentic seaside eateries like Key Largo Fisheries Backyard and the Key Lime Café.

Alternatively, why not experience some Caribbean and American fusion at Skipper’s Dockside? Or maybe even satisfy that sweet tooth at Key Largo Chocolates.

Micheline-starred a la carte is hardly what Key Largo will have in store, though what it can offer is impeccably flavoursome and wholesome cuisine that is totally authentic to the laidback lifestyle of Key Largo.
