Barbados & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
Barbados & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
Barbados & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
There are a few things to consider, weather-wise, when visiting the Caribbean for a multi-centre holiday. Hurricane season typically runs from June to November, and while Barbados is less frequently affected by hurricanes, the Bahamas is more likely to experience them, especially in August and September.
For both destinations, spring and autumn are great windows to travel in. During spring, both Barbados and the Bahamas have a lovely climate, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C. It’s a great time to explore the beaches and surrounding nature, avoiding the crowds that flock there in some of the other seasons. In autumn, just after the hurricane season ends, the weather will be sunny and warm, but the full tourist season won’t have kicked in yet, meaning you can enjoy the attractions without the crowds.
While winter remains an option, it also tends to be busier across both destinations, and prices often reflect this.
The time difference between Barbados, The Bahamas and the UK will vary based on daylight saving time. When the UK doesn't have daylight saving time, both islands are 4 hours behind, and this increases to 5 hours when DST is in effect. There is no time difference between Barbados and The Bahamas.
Major international airports in the UK, such as London Heathrow Airport (LHR), London Gatwick Airport (LGW), Manchester Airport (MAN), and Birmingham Airport (BHX), all have flight connections to both the Bahamas and Barbados, so will typically be your starting point.
Barbados is conveniently accessible through Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), and for the Bahamas, Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is the main entry point.
There are typically no direct flights between The Bahamas and Barbados, so you may need to make a connection through US cities such as Miami or Atlanta, to get from one to the other.
Traveling between Barbados and The Bahamas typically involves taking a flight, as these two destinations are separated by a considerable distance. There aren’t any direct ferry services or bridges connecting them, so the most common route is to take a connecting flight through a major international hub in the US, typically Miami, Atlanta, or New York. Flight times will vary depending on your route, but the journey typically takes 6 to 10 hours.
Planning multi-centre holidays to Barbados and Bahamas is a breeze - you can start the process by locking in your dream trip up to 36 months before your departure date. Just put down an initial deposit to reserve your holiday and spread out the remaining cost through a series of manageable instalments.
Barbados is very established as a tourist destination, and so has a diverse range of areas and accommodation types, from vibrant beachfront resorts to serene villa rentals.
The West Coast, also known as the ‘Platinum Coast’, is the go-to spot for many tourists in Barbados. It's known for its luxurious resorts, pristine beaches, and fancy dining options. If you’re looking for something a little indulgent, this would be the place to choose.
Bridgetown and the South Coast of Barbados have a different, but equally interesting vibe. Here, you’ll find a vibrant atmosphere with numerous restaurants, shops, and plenty of entertainment options. It's a popular choice for tourists who want a mixture of convenience, nightlife, and beach access. St. Lawrence Gap, also located on the South Coast, is known for its bustling nightlife, and is great for those who want to be in the heart of the action and enjoy a lively evening scene.
Speightstown on the West Coast has a quieter and distinctly more laid-back atmosphere. It's popular among tourists who come to appreciate the island's history and culture. There are a number of hotels and guesthouses in this area that provide a unique and authentic Barbadian experience.
The East Coast of Barbados is less frequented by tourists but is great for those who love adventure and natural beauty. It’s significantly less developed and has rugged coastlines and dramatic landscapes, making it great for a quieter escape for your Barbados multi-centre holiday.
Barbados is known for its stunning beaches, so this is a great place to start. Whether you're soaking up the lively atmosphere at Dover Beach or relaxing on the tranquil shores of Bottom Bay, you'll find a beach to suit your mood. Swim, snorkel, or simply bask in the sun to make the most of the natural beauty here.
To learn more about the island’s history and culture, head to the UNESCO-listed capital city, Bridgetown. Visit landmarks like the Barbados Museum, St. Nicholas Abbey, and the Parliament Buildings to get some insights into the island's past.
Animal lovers can see the green monkeys at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve or go swimming with sea turtles on organised tours to really connect with the island’s inhabitants.
If you love the great outdoors, you’ll enjoy exploring Barbados' lush landscapes and hiking trails. Hike to the summit of Mount Hillaby for epic panoramic views, or wander through the Andromeda Botanic Gardens to see a gorgeous collection of tropical plants.
Finally, head to North Point, where you can witness breathtaking sunsets, where the rugged cliffs meet the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Bahamas really is a tropical paradise, and there’s a variety of gorgeous islands to consider when choosing where to stay.
Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, is a bustling hub known for its rich culture, historic sites, and lively atmosphere. Cable Beach is a popular area in Nassau, and has a range of upscale resorts like Baha Mar, which is a massive complex with casinos, dining, and lovely beaches.
Connected to Nassau by bridge, Paradise Island is famous for its luxurious resorts and plentiful attractions. Atlantis Paradise Island Resort is also a world-renowned destination that families will love - it has a water park, marine habitats, as well as a stunning casino for the adults.
The Exumas are a collection of breathtakingly beautiful islands known for their white sands and clear waters, as well as the swimming pigs at Big Major Cay. Staniel Cay Yacht Club and Grand Isle Resort on Great Exuma are popular options for travellers looking to enjoy the natural beauty of this region.
If you’re after something more low key, the Abaco Islands offer a more tranquil escape. Resorts like The Abaco Club on Winding Bay create an upscale experience, while holiday rentals and boutique hotels cater to those seeking a quieter, more authentic Bahamian getaway.
If you prefer to be a little more off-the-grid, the Out Islands are a more laid-back, off-the-beaten-path experience. Islands like Eleuthera, Harbour Island, and Andros have a handful of boutique hotels, rentals, and eco-resorts for tourists looking to connect with nature and enjoy the more serene beaches.
There’s plenty to see and do when you head off on your Bahamas multi-centre holiday. If you prefer to enjoy everything in one place, head to one of the most iconic and extravagant resorts in the world - Atlantis Paradise Island. It has a wealth of attractions within its complex, including the awe-inspiring Atlantis Aquarium, a huge casino, and the Aquaventure Water Park. The resort also has its own beautiful beach and marine habitats.
The Exuma Cays are a gorgeous collection of islands known for their exquisite beauty. At the famous Pig Beach on Big Major Cay, you can swim with adorable swimming pigs. Explore the vibrant coral reefs, visit Thunderball Grotto (made famous from the James Bond film), and enjoy boating and snorkelling in this idyllic marine playground.
Blue Lagoon Island is located close to Nassau, and is a tropical paradise with sparklingly clear waters and powdery white sand. It's a great spot for photos, or just kicking back and soaking up the sights.
Andros is the largest of the Bahamas' islands and is well worth a visit for nature enthusiasts. Here, you’ll find world-class bonefishing, gorgeous beaches, and intriguing underwater caves, such as the mesmerizing Blue Holes National Park.
