Barbados Highlights
Sun, sea, and driving on the left! What more could you need? Barbados may be small but she’s mighty and with flawless sands, shimmering sea and welcoming vibes, this is the ultimate tropical paradise. Its beaches are all public and open to everyone, so whether you’re splashing out on a five-star resort or staying in a modest apartment, you can enjoy the best of everything this Caribbean Island has to offer.
Heavenly Beaches
Boasting more than 50 gorgeous beaches, Barbados’ coastline will leave you speechless, with picture-perfect white sands, gently lapping waters and an abundance of water sports opportunities, it’s truly heaven on earth. The island’s west and south coasts are wonderful for families as the beaches are wide and the waters gentle, while the more dramatic north and Atlantic coasts provide spots to simply sit and marvel at the powerful waves from the comfort of dry land.
Stunning Food
With a rich cultural heritage stemming from African, British, Irish, Creole and Indian influences, Bajan cuisine exudes flavour and flair and is best enjoyed by the beach. Naturally, seafood is king here, especially flying fish, which is one half of the country’s national dish and the other being ‘cou-cou’, a tasty mix of okra and cornmeal.
World-Class Hotels
Barbados boasts some of the most beautiful hotels in the Caribbean, offering five-star services, first-rate spa and leisure amenities and luxurious accommodations fit for royalty. Many hotels overlook the sea with rooms and suites directly on the beautiful white sands, particularly on the island’s calmer west coast – the perfect spot for those show-stopping sunsets.
Rum, Rum, and More Rum
One of Barbados’ finest exports is its sweet rum. The island is known as the birthplace of rum and there are various attractions to learn about and sample this authentic taste of the Caribbean. Take an interesting distillery tour or simply sit back in a welcoming beach bar and indulge in a drink, or three!

Barbados & Jamaica Holiday FAQs
Barbados & Jamaica Holiday FAQs
Barbados & Jamaica Holiday FAQs
When planning your upcoming trip you’ll need to factor in two different climates. The Caribbean hurricane season typically runs from June to November, with Barbados more heavily affected than Jamaica (particularly in August and September).
The spring and autumn months offer a prime window for visiting both destinations. During the spring, you can expect delightful weather in both Barbados and Jamaica, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C. It's a great time to explore the many beaches and get outdoors to soak up the lush natural landscapes, all while avoiding the crowds that tend to flock to these destinations in other seasons.
In autumn, (which arrives just after the hurricane season ends), you’ll experience sunny and warm weather without the risk of hurricanes. Like with spring, it’s a good window of opportunity to enjoy the attractions, dip into the local cultures, and enjoy the natural beauty without the usual crowds.
Winter sun is an option in both destinations, but it does tend to be busier, which can often mean higher prices and more crowded attractions.
When the UK is not observing Daylight Saving Time, both Barbados and Jamaica are 4 hours behind the UK. Note that this time difference increases to 5 hours when the UK is in DST. Similarly, Barbados is one hour ahead of Jamaica.
For travellers heading off on multi-centre holidays to Barbados and Jamaica from the UK, major airports like London Heathrow Airport (LHR), London Gatwick Airport (LGW), Manchester Airport (MAN), and Birmingham Airport (BHX) are all good starting points.
Barbados is readily accessible through Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), which serves as the primary gateway to the island, while Jamaica is typically accessible through Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston or Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, depending on the destination you’ve chosen.
The most popular direct flight connecting Barbados and Jamaica departs from Grantley Adams International Airport, which typically takes 3 hours.
When it comes to booking your holiday, the planning process is pretty straightforward. You’ll be able to secure your trip as early as 36 months before your departure date - simply put down an initial deposit and spread the rest of the cost out over a series of monthly instalments.
Barbados multi-centre holidays are full of diversity, and this vibrant island has different areas catering to different types of tourists.
St. Lawrence Gap, located on the south coast, is the go-to destination for those looking for lively nightlife, bustling restaurants, and a vibrant atmosphere. It's especially popular among young travelers, couples, and party enthusiasts who want to experience the island's energetic side.
If history and culture is more your thing, Bridgetown, the capital city, is the place to be. It has a colonial architecture, museums, and local markets, making it perfect if you’re looking to explore the island’s heritage. It does, however, lack the beachfront setting that many come to Barbados for.
On the West Coast, Holetown strikes a fine balance between relaxation and entertainment. This area is well-suited for families, couples, and tourists who want to enjoy beautiful beaches, upscale shopping, and plenty of wonderful dining options.
Speightstown, also on the West Coast, has a more authentic and tranquil Barbadian vibe. If you’re seeking local culture, historic sites, and a relaxed atmosphere, this might just be the spot for you.
For seclusion and natural beauty, Crane Beach on the Southeast Coast is another great option. It's particularly well-suited for honeymooners and couples looking for something romantic. It's a little more remote though, so bear this in mind if you’re considering choosing this spot.
One of the more well known options for Jamaica multi-centre holidays is Montego Bay, a bustling resort city, known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and a plethora of all-inclusive resorts. It's a popular choice for tourists seeking a lively atmosphere and a perfect balance of relaxation and entertainment. It can get a little crowded, so if you’re looking for something more tranquil, you might prefer some of the other spots on the island.
Another option is Negril. It’s known for its iconic Seven Mile Beach and is a total haven for beach lovers and sun seekers alike. It’s particularly well-suited for couples, as well as anyone looking for a more laid-back and romantic ambiance.
Ocho Rios is famous for its lush landscapes, epic waterfalls (like Dunn's River Falls), and a wide array of activities for adventure enthusiasts. If you love outdoor adventures, as well as the idea of exploring Jamaica's natural wonders, you’ll love this spot.
Nestled between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, Runaway Bay exudes a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere while still providing easy access to many of Jamaica's attractions. It's particularly well-suited for families and those in search of a peaceful getaway.
Both islands are packed with activities for the whole family to enjoy, setting the scene for an epic family trip.
In Barbados, a visit to Harrison's Cave makes for a great day trip. Embark on a tram tour through the underground cave system, marveling at the breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites that hang overhead. It's an educational and awe-inspiring experience that both kids and adults will love.
Barbados is also known for its friendly sea turtles, and you’ll find that there are various boat tours and snorkelling opportunities where you can swim alongside these gentle creatures. It's a truly memorable experience for children, and a great chance for them to also learn about marine life conservation.
A trip to Jamaica wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios. Families can climb the cascading waterfalls together, stopping to enjoy the refreshing natural pools along the way. It's a fun and active day out surrounded by gorgeous natural beauty.
Whilst you’re in Ochos Rios, head to Mystic Mountain - it has a range of thrilling and family-friendly experiences. Embark on a rainforest adventure aboard the Sky Explorer chairlift, which has panoramic views of the lush landscape. There's also a bobsled ride that's inspired by the Jamaican bobsled team's Olympic journey, and is a safe and exciting experience for kids.
In Barbados, don't miss the chance to try the national dish, Cou-Cou, which combines cornmeal and okra with a delicious sauce made from flying fish, creating a yummy blend of textures and tastes. Another local favourite is the Fish Cutter, a popular street food that consists of fried swordfish served in a salt bread roll with fresh lettuce, tomato, and Bajan hot sauce.
In Jamaica, the iconic Jerk Chicken is a must-try for meat eaters. Taste the island's renowned jerk seasoning - a blend of spices used to marinate and grill chicken or pork, resulting in a smoky and delicious flavour. If you don’t eat meat, you’ll find a delicious alternative in ‘Jamaican Jerk Tofu’. This vegetarian and vegan-friendly dish is great for those seeking a plant-based bite with the same bold and smoky jerk flavours.
