Famously known as the Sunshine State, Florida lives up to its reputation with consistently sunny weather year-round. We recommend planning your Orlando trip during the winter months spanning from late November to March if it’s milder weather and lower temperatures you’re after. This period means you’ll bypass the scorching summer heat and humidity. Travelling outside the peak summer and Spring Break periods also gives you the advantage of smaller theme park crowds. However, it's important to note that Orlando's most popular Disney and Universal attractions bring visitors throughout the year so expect some queues no matter when you visit.

Barbados experiences warm and sunny weather throughout the year, making it a must-visit destination at any time. However, we suggest visiting during the drier season from December to April if you want to avoid the wetter and hurricane-prone season that spans late Spring to September — but remember, rainfall always makes way for more sun in the Caribbean too!

Just keep in mind that the drier high season is also when hotels are busiest, so consider visiting in November and December for a more peaceful experience with plenty of sunshine and fewer crowds.

For your Orlando adventure, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the most convenient option since it’s located just 6 miles from the main theme park district where Universal and Disney are. When travelling to Barbados, Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is the best gateway to the island's top resorts and attractions.

Orlando, Florida follows Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) while Barbados is on Atlantic Standard Time (AST) year-round. This means Orlando is typically 1 hour behind Barbados. But just be aware that Daylight Saving Time changes can occasionally affect this time difference depending on the time of year.

You can also dive a little deeper into the local heritage over at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, teeming with fascinating exhibitions, artefacts, and art galleries. You’re also invited to watch a local cricket match, whether it’s a friendly game on the beach or an international Test Match at Kensington Oval. Or you can enjoy an afternoon rum-tasting at Mount Gay, the world’s oldest rum distillery which holds tasting tours for you to learn all about their rum-making process (and of course, pick up a bottle or two in the visitor gift shop).

You’ll feel genuinely embraced by the Barbadians, AKA Bajans. It’s also home to a wide range of fun things to do that cater to all ages, whether it’s a quiet afternoon sandcastle-building on one of the many beaches or a day checking out the island’s kids’-orientated attractions like monkey-spotting at Barbados Wildlife Reserve or exploring the 500,000-year-old Harrison's Cave.

Barbados is a culinary paradise known for its fusion of Caribbean flavours, fresh seafood, and all sorts of International West and African influences. If you’re seeking a taste of luxury, the island has a range of five-star fine dining restaurants like The Cliff and Cin Cin by the Sea, both boasting stunning oceanfront settings and exquisite a la carte menus.

There are plenty of options for families too, including the wholesome seafood grub of The Fish Pot, the laid-back beachy vibes of Juma’s, or the Mediterranean-influenced Tides Restaurant combining glamour, live music, and locally sourced ingredients. Thankfully most of Barbados’s restaurants have kids menus for picky eaters, including the local favourite Nishi, a courtyard-style place known for its specialty cocktails and must-try sushi bar.

Orlando is a city known for its ever-evolving theme park experiences! The VelociCoaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure is a pure adrenaline rush for thrill-seekers — where you’ll race through high-speed launches alongside life-sized velociraptors! SeaWorld Orlando is another must for adrenaline junkies, with its line-up including the new-for-2022 Pipeline Surfline ‘coaster where you’ll feel the rush of a 60mph launch standing up. There’s also EPCOT's Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind which combines a high-speed rollercoaster with state-of-the-art screen storytelling alongside Star-Lord and the rest of the galactic gang. Or over Disney's Hollywood Studios, there’s Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance which puts you and your fellow riders right at the heart of the action of a Stormtrooper battle.

There are plenty more family-friendly options available too, including Universal’s Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, an exhilarating journey through the Forbidden Forest where you’ll come face to face with unicorns, devil’s snare, and the three-headed Fluffy. Or you can step into the animated world of classic Disney with Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, an innovative dark ride that blends 2D and 3D technology for a breathtaking sensory experience. 

Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center are relatively close, approximately 45 to 60 miles depending on the exact starting point of your resort or hotel. A typical car journey will take around 45 minutes to an hour by car, on account of local traffic.

We highly recommend a trip to the Kennedy Space Center, whether you’re a mini aspiring astronaut or a family looking for a day out filled with fun and inspiring learning.
