San Francisco Highlights
San Francisco is known for many things and lends itself to several nicknames including ‘The Golden Gate City’, ‘The City of Fog’, and ‘The City by the Bay’. And with its welcoming locals and wonderful laid-back vibes, this is the city that has it all.
Superb Shopping
Whether you’re after some quirky one-off clothing items or some high-end designer gear, San Francisco has it all. Head to Union Square if you’re in the mood for a spending spree – or perhaps just some window shopping if you’ve understandably spent all your money on burritos. And for a splash of 60s nostalgia, take a trip to the colourful streets of Haight-Ashbury and purchase a pair of those flares you’ve always wanted!
Amazing Food Scene
San Francisco is a foodie’s paradise and known worldwide for its culinary creativity and delicious food innovations, which have been influenced by the cultures and flavours of the waves of immigrants settling in the city over the decades. Give your tastebuds a party and try classic dishes like Mission-style burritos, clam chowder and the delectable ‘cioppino’, a mouthwatering Italian-American fish stew that typically includes Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, scallops, squid and more.
Iconic Landmarks
San Francisco showcases its pride and progress through its many must-see historic landmarks. From wandering the former island prison of Alcatraz to cycling amongst the clouds along the Golden Gate Bridge and riding the old-charm cable cars that glide through the streets - your days in San Francisco will be equally unique and magical.
Great Beaches
It might not be the best place to swim on California’s Pacific Coast, but San Francisco’s beaches are beautiful, brisk, and built for walks, paddling, sunbathing, and soaking up casual city vibes during your downtime. Dotted around the Bay are swathes of pretty sands, hiking trails, historic ruins and secluded coves for breathing in that crisp ocean air – and with stunning Golden Gate Bridge views, there are few more enticing spots to spend your days.

Miami & San Francisco FAQs
Miami & San Francisco FAQs
Miami & San Francisco FAQs
For the best weather for both relaxing and exploring, spring is the perfect time to plan your Miami and San Francisco multi-centre holidays. You’ll avoid the crowds, the heat, and most importantly, those Florida hurricanes of peak summer, with average April temperatures peaking around 27°C in Miami and 17°C in San Francisco.
If you’re planning a break later in the year, November is a great time to visit. Although the hurricane season lasts through November in Miami, most hit by October, plus you’ll enjoy cooler temperatures than peak summer and more wallet-friendly prices than popular winter. Autumn marks a sweet spot for visiting San Francisco, too, with the weather often warmer between September and November than it is during summer.
Miami is generally 5 hours behind the UK, observing Eastern Standard Time (EST), while California is generally 8 hours behind, observing Pacific Standard Time (PST). However, if you’re travelling in March or November, look out for when their time zones change to Eastern Daylight Time and Pacific Daylight Time, as US clocks go forward or backward an hour on different Sundays than in the UK.
Enjoy direct flights from the UK to Miami International Airport (MIA), departing from both London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW). For San Francisco, fly into San Francisco International (SFO).
If you need flight advice for Miami and San Francisco twin-centre holidays, just ask our friendly USA experts.
We are delighted to offer guaranteed prices up to 36 months ahead of your multi-centre itinerary. Simply secure your package with an initial low deposit today and you can pay the remainder in affordable monthly instalments.
You can’t visit Miami without spending time at South Beach, known locally as SoBe. The iconic strand is home to famous Art Deco architecture and miles of white sands, with plenty to see and do including swimming, sunbathing, and playing volleyball.
For somewhere a little quieter, Crandon Park boasts over 800 acres and a peaceful place to relax. Kids and adults alike will love the tennis courts and abundant nature, as well as a winding golf course. Keen anglers, meanwhile, should head to South Pointe Park Pier, complete with special stations for cutting bait. Here, you’ll also find well-tended walking trails, stunning views, and a fun kids’ playground.
With so many Miami beaches to discover, why not plan a Miami multi-centre itinerary and enjoy them all?
Whether you’re enjoying a Miami and San Francisco multi-centre holiday with family or friends, there are plenty of incredible restaurants, cafes, and street food venues to tantalise your taste buds. For a romantic dinner overlooking the water, book a table at Amara at Paraiso on 7th Avenue and pair your meal with sunset views. For a family feast, look no further than The Wharf Miami with its street food options, including pizzas and specialty burgers.
Miami is also home to incredible, authentic Cuban cuisine, so a visit to Sanguich De Miami on 8th Street is not to be missed. Wherever you plan on eating, be sure to turn up with an appetite.
Factor in some time during your San Francisco multi-centre itinerary to visit some of the city’s best eateries. For luxury fine dining, head to the two-Michelin-starred Birdsong on Mission Street, famed for its flame-kissed meats. Or for something a little more wallet-friendly, grab the most succulent wings in town to-go at Hot Sauce and Panko in Russian Hill.
Families will also love Mersea Restaurant, with front-row views of the bay and plenty of open space for playing, combined with a delicious menu of fish tacos, pizza, and daily chef’s specials. Find it on Treasure Island.
Miami has an abundance of shopping options, but here are just a few of our favourites…
First, head to Aventura Mall, the largest shopping centre in all of Florida. Here you’ll find 300 retailers alongside a range of delicious dining options, from sit-down restaurants to grab n’ go coffee shops for that much-needed mid-shop caffeine fix.
Next, we recommend South Beach’s popular Lincoln Road, where you’ll find all your favourite high street stores, from H&M and Sephora to Apple and Adidas. In fact, you’ll find over 200 boutiques and restaurants lining the iconic Art Deco streets. Plus, Lincoln Road was named by TripAdvisor as one of the Top 10 attraction destinations in the world!
Finally, for a luxury fix, visit Bal Harbour Shops. Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, it’s home to the world’s biggest and best designers, from Prada to Chanel. The Miami Design District is also famed for its trendy stores, as well as its ground-breaking art and architecture. Whatever your favourite designer, you’re sure to find them here, from Dior to Balenciaga, as well as a row of extravagant watch shops, including Tag Heuer and Vacheron Constantin.
From international luxury brands to affordable market stores, San Francisco has a vibrant and eclectic shopping scene with a budget-friendly option for everyone.
Pier 39 is one of the city’s most popular waterfront shopping destinations, with over 50 stores offering the best souvenirs from your drop, from jewellery to clothes. Plus, the views of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, and Alcatraz, make a delightful backdrop for that mid-shop lunch break.
Wallets of all sizes will love Union Square, with its mix of high-end designers like Gucci and Hermes, upscale department stores such as Barney’s and Saks, and high street brands like H&M; there’s a reason it’s known as the shopping hub of San Francisco!
Many San Francisco neighbourhoods are famed for their great shopping, too; head to Hayes Valley and explore its sunny stretch of high-end boutiques, or visit the cutting-edge Mission District, where emerging global brands can be found before they hit the mainstream.
o visit to San Francisco is complete without a visit to Alcatraz. Explore the notorious prison, hear stories from former inmates, and hide in the cells. The boat trip over is almost as good, offering amazing views of the bay.
Less than one hour from the city, you’ll find Muir Woods, famed for its giant redwoods, with many great trails to hike with kids. There’s a short 30-minute loop that’s great for little legs, as well as more accessible trails for those with a pram.
Silicon Valley also makes a surprisingly great day out for families; visit the Tech Museum of Innovation or make your own tour, pointing out Facebook HQ to ‘like’-loving teens.
Based on our first-hand experience, multi-centre holidays to Miami and San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the famous Golden Gate Bridge. You can walk the 1.3-mile bridge at any time, but we recommend dawn for the best light and fewest crowds.
If you’re fascinated by the history of the Bridge, enjoy twice-weekly free walking tours offered by San Francisco City Guides, or discover the onsite exhibits.
Both ends of the Bridge touch the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, too, where you’ll find picturesque trails and stunning vista points — well worth a visit even if you don’t walk the Bridge itself.
