Top Tips for an Orlando Family Holiday
Top Tips for an Orlando Family Holiday
Top Tips for an Orlando Family Holiday
From a hug from Mickey Mouse to the moment they discover fresh seafood is actually rather tasty - travelling with children in Orlando is indeed a different beast. Once you return, you may need a child-free spa break or two, but there are few more rewarding moments than seeing their eyes light up at the sight of something remarkable. And there is an abundance of remarkable moments to be found. Here’s how to maximise your stay…
Book Theme Park Tickets in Advance
If theme parks are on your Orlando checklist, our top tip would be to book tickets in advance. Not only will this save you money, but advance tickets can come with exclusive benefits. For example, 14-Day Magic Tickets let you visit multiple theme parks on the same day with Park Hopper, get unlimited downloads of your favourite family photos with Memory Maker, and tee up at Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course for a little healthy competition. And if you’re craving even more sports, you can also enjoy access to ESPN Wide World of Sports.
We can help you find the best ticket deals at all major Florida attractions right here.
Pre-plan Your Family Dining
Things can book up fast when it comes to large group booking. So, to save any disappointments, we recommend making a reservation ahead of departure. Here are a few of our favourite family-friendly theme park restaurants sandwiched between culinary delights in wider O-town.
Manny’s Chophouse – A prime choice for classic Floridian dishes and renowned for the best steak in town.
The Boathouse in Disney Springs – Ideal for fine dining, experience delicious seafood in a stunning waterfront setting.
Keke’s Breakfast Café – Discover everything from Hershey’s chocolate chip waffles to blueberry stuffed French toast to start each day right.
Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament – The ultimate meal and show combination themed after a royal banquet of yesteryear, showcasing jousting and sword fighting
The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen – An ever popular Universal Orlando Resort restaurant that requires you always save room for something sweet.
What to Pack
A variety of clothing
You may picture yourself parading around in shorts and t-shirts in Florida. And you'd be right - just not every day. Whilst offering a subtropical climate, the rainy season in Orlando begins from May to October and warrants packing your waterproofs with you. Plus, when the AC is cranked up indoors, a jumper wouldn’t go amiss either.
Finally, be sure to bring a selection of footwear. After all, you want to be prepared for it all – from running wild in the Disney water parks to exploring the muddy marshland of the nearby Everglades.
A mini first aid kit
While we all hope for holidays to be injury-free, sometimes accidents happen – especially when travelling with little troublemakers. That’s why we recommend packing a mini-first aid kit for peace of mind – including plasters for any ‘ouchies’ the kids may encounter.
The Best Orlando Villas for Families
ChampionsGate Resort
Set amid 900 acres of lush landscapes and endless amenities, the prestigious ChampionsGate Resort is an exceptional choice for every kind of traveller. Yet the resort's greatest feature is the outstanding facilities for young children - including a charming family restaurant, a captivating resort cinema, and a fun-filled arcade games room.
Better yet, there is an Oasis Kids Club which has been exclusively designed with children in mind.
Within this animated realm of play, young ones can let their creative energies run wild and allow their imaginations to soar (of course, under the watchful eyes of an adult). The playground is decked out with roomy and comfy bean bags, crafting the ideal location for children to settle, engage, and stumble upon new captivating curiosities. This includes the opportunity to interact with a variety of skill-enhancing toys, art books, mini building kits, board games, reading materials, and video game consoles.
Just beyond the playroom's perimeter, the younger crowd can relish in the refreshing delight at the children's splash pad, nestled in the heart of Oasis Water Park. Equipped with a miniature water slide, climbing frame, and a dumping bucket that surprises them with a gentle waterfall of laughter-inducing splashes.
The lavish Oasis Waterpark also delivers, featuring two resort swimming pools, a leisurely 500 ft lazy river, an exhilarating waterslide, poolside recliners, and a tiki bar.
BellaVida Resort
BellaVida Resort is a fantastic choice for a wallet-friendly family holiday in Orlando. This saving is largely achieved by favouring serene, nature-laden environments over lavish resort amenities.
Nestled just 8 miles away from Walt Disney World, the resort unfolds over 15 acres of gorgeous lakes, cultivating an enchanting ambience that echoes southern Europe with its appealing Mediterranean-style residences.
Throughout your visit, you can relish the cosiness of a home-like villa that boasts a private swimming pool and a fully furnished kitchen. Complementing this, the resort unveils an array of recreational options, which include a movie theatre and a gaming room stocked with table tennis and foosball facilities.
For those drawn to the outdoors, basketball and volleyball courts invite you for a friendly match under the radiant sun. If you wish to keep up with your fitness regimen within enclosed spaces, the resort is also home to a well-fitted fitness centre. With the added convenience of two community swimming pools, a refreshing dip is never too far away.
BellaVida Resort also offers an invitation to wander along its verdant nature trails, soaking in the lush surroundings. You might even organize a charming family picnic by the idyllic lakes and lively conservation area. For feeding the family with ease, a Walmart Supercenter is situated less than half a mile from the resort, enabling you to quickly gather snacks for your open-air feast. Importantly, BellaVida Resort continues to cater to the needs of the whole family with a designated children's playground and a striking clubhouse lounge.
Encore Resort
Experience a five-star villa resort without the premium price tag. Consider Encore Resort, where the whole family can reunite at 4 to 13-bedroom properties. There are also first-class amenities on-site for all ages. Such as a water park, spa and multiple dining options – even an in-home chef for the night. Whatever your needs, a personal concierge service will be on hand. Plus, to add an encore to your travel dreams, we give you every 5th night free.
Better yet, Encore Resort offers an array of themed bedrooms ideal for young families. For example, Ocean 559 has a Frozen inspired bedroom that transports you to the icy expanses of the Arctic. In the heart of the room bunk beds have been turned into an impressive ice palace enclosed with a castle door-shaped entrance, and a slide for existing the top bunk.
Meanwhile, over at Ocean 444, all ages can enjoy the nostalgic 1970s American diner-styled games room. Decked out with glossy vinyl checkered floors, retro advertisements, and a bold ruby red colour scheme, you can step back in time into this lively hotspot.
Orlando Multi-Centre Holidays
Orlando & New York
From shopping 'til you drop to climbing the highest rollercoasters, is any holiday more of a whirlwind than pairing the City That Never Sleeps with the Theme Park Capital of the World? We don’t think so. When Orlando’s tropical weather and theme parks meet New York’s cooler climes and culture, the "best of both worlds" claim is settled.
The Easter half term presents an ideal time for families to embark on a journey to both New York and Orlando, promising pleasant weather for sightseeing, fewer crowds, and reasonable rates. As winter gives way to spring in March, New York slowly starts to warm up. By April, the temperature lingers around 18°C, increasing to 22°C in May and a balmy 27°C by June.
The story is similar in Orlando. Springtime ushers in temperatures in the comfortable mid-20s – perfect for exploring the theme parks. Besides, the parks are less crowded, but the entertainment doesn't slow down. The vibrant Universal's Mardi Gras celebration carries on until the end of April, while Disney's Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival extends from March through July.
Orlando & Hawaii
What could be more magical than staying at one of Disney’s hotels? The only right answer is two.
After staying at Walt Disney World in Orlando, you can jet off to The Big Island, Hawaii, for more fun in the sun and fairytales. Here lies the Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa - nestled in Kapolei on Hawaii’s Oahu Island - promising a unique beach vacation with winter temperatures averaging around 27°C. The resort also boasts Character Dining, a grotto-style swimming pool equipped with waterfalls and waterslides, as well as a private beach.
Beyond the Aulani resort, you can say aloha to the highest sea cliffs on earth, sensational waterfalls, epic canyons, monumental volcanos, otherworldly sunsets, and a unique heritage that ensures there’s something for the whole family to love.
Orlando & the Gulf Coast
A trio of Gulf Coast destinations, Clearwater, Sarasota, and Fort Myers, are within just a 2-3 hour drive from Orlando, letting you combine rollercoaster skylines with sugar white shorelines. Particularly when you consider that Clearwater Beach is one of America's most award-winning. Here, you will find oceanfront hotels where dolphins are the locals.
Be sure to take advantage of the ocean tours available from Clearwater and there’s a great chance you will encounter groups of stunning bottlenose dolphins.
Then, you can make your way to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where one of their most notable achievements includes the rehabilitation of Florida’s most celebrated dolphin, Winter. This remarkable creature learned to navigate the waters with a prosthetic tail, becoming the star of the family-friendly film Dolphin Tale.
What’s more, Clearwater sets the stage for some of the most captivating sunsets, as the sky is painted with a spectacular palette of colours. In fact, St. Pete Beach is officially dubbed the Sunset Capital of Florida. With this in mind, don't miss the nightly Pier 60 Sunset Celebration. This renowned tradition on Clearwater Beach is complete with live music, street performers, craft vendors, and even flamboyant fire eaters. And the best part? It’s absolutely free! This family-friendly event is the ideal way to watch the sun set into the Gulf.
